Am I ready for a border collie?
I want to buy a border collie puppy, but I'm not sure I'm ready for one. I know what get supplies. Our backyard does not have a fence, but you will install an invisible fence. It is not very large but it is enough to run in. Also, we live to Across the street from our school! They have a sports field. I exercise my border collie before school, after school, and a long afternoon. My mom and dad are home most of the day at least, and you can exercise while I'm at school. I want to do agility and flyball with my dog, and I have a plan socialization that includes going to New York, fields and dog parks with him. I have 13 years and know the magnitude of this responsibility. I want a partner to walk, ride cycling and swimming. Thanks in advance!
Border collies are one of the most intelligent breeds of dogs and need plenty of exercise and stimulation to keep them healthy and committed. It sounds like you have done your research well and are prepared to handle the responsibility that comes along with the possession of this very active breed. In the end day, a tired border collie is a happy border collie. Flyball and agility are excellent activities for dogs, and with proper training, you and your dog with two excel. Border collies are perfect for these sports because they are very smart and agile. What do I do with my young dog agility has never been happier than when we are out in the field! Dog parks and campgrounds are excellent ways to help your puppy learn social skills. border collies tend to be friendly with other dogs, and often chase them around and "herd" them. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that an electric fence is not foolproof. Dogs can be trained to stay within the limits, but border collies have a natural instinct to herd and chase other animals (including small children so be careful!) and can take off and run directly through the download. As someone wrote earlier, electric fences do not keep out of other animals, so be sure keep an eye on the dog when outside. In addition, make sure your puppy is spayed or neutered early just to make sure no other dogs have in the yard to rear. Dogs are very good at finding a mate away while in the heat.
