Could the Humane Society have lied about my dog dying?

Well, I'll tell the whole story so you can understand. Year My last dog was very sick and could not walk, and I was alone at home. My parents could not pay for the treatment of my dog, so we had to give the Humane Society and now belongs. However, the woman of the Humane Society said they tell me my dog is doing over the phone, and if it is, I could re-adopt it. A couple of weeks later, the SPCA called my parents and said I had to put my dog down because he was old and though he had surgery, had a slow heart anyway. Could the Humane Society have been lying to us about my dog put down so that it could not to adopt, because they did not trust that we would take good care of him? Could I still be alive and possibly adoption to another family that the Humane Society thinks it will take better care of him, although he said he put down? Because most do not own, so would not be surprised if he lied.

Not be allowed to readopt it. You already gave him. bad dog owners.
