Safety Fence
Safety Fence
What is a good way to convince the zoning board needs a fence 6 feet?

I applied to build a fence 6 feet in the backyard of my property. The building department denied the application and have applied for a variation of this. I have a hearing scheduled and the need to convince the Board that the fence is for the safety of my property and privacy. How can I present this in a professional manner. I'm doing this for me and does not use a lawyer, etc. My neighbors are fine with my decision to put the fence, it will also be given privacy advice please, thanks

Typically zoning boards rejected six foot fences, because discourage "neighborhood" feel in a stable or, more practically, prevents the police to look into the courtyard. You will have to sell the idea that the security of your property depends on it. If a solid fence is not going to try a fence that has offset slats. Allow people to look in the yard, but the view will be obscured. Another way to go is a wire fence and put a fast-growing hedge as a privet. If that fails, go with what they allow. Then build a wall around his private life deck, patio, or any area that you use in your backyard. Before the hearing, anticipate what their objections and have prepared answers for them. Go to your neighbors and ask them to come to the hearing in support. If they will not come, ask for statements of support you can bring to the hearing. Know what to say and if you're not used to talking in that situation, practice before you go. You will be able to hear what you are going to say. Finally, keep your wits about you. I often, people are intimidated by members of the board. Stay focused on what he wants to accomplish.
