How effective are electric line trimmers? Recommendations, please.?

I need to get a line trimmer. I don’t have any lawn, as such, but where there was mulch has now become overgrown with weeds and I need to get these down before I poison the weeds and recover with bark chip and add a few mosaic tiles I’ve made.

I know petrol line trimmers are more powerful/effective, but because of health issues (arthritis/frozen shoulder) starting them is out of the question.

So, just how effective are electric line trimmers? What is the minimum power I should look for? Does thicker nylon trimming cable make a great difference? How effective are rechargeable electric ones? The assistant in the shop ran me off them because the battery makes them heavier – again , a major consideration.

Finally, does anyone have specific recommendations of brands? Thanks.

Weed waking weeds is not a great way of controlling your unwanted plant growth in your mulch beds, in our area you have to repeat the process every ten days. The reason is you leave the root system intact and the growth resumes within hours.

Hosing your beds/mulch with with water the day before you intend to weed and than dig with a shovel to loosen the roots will keep you longer weed free.

Electric line trimmers are not your answer …. i have tried it on two continents and in warm and cold climates.

If you are in the Tri State area around Philadelphia contact a landscaper that practices natural lawn care and bed maintenance such as www.do-it-now-landscaping.com
