Cat hair and chewing my hair?

my cat has recently fallen into the habit of ascending to the head (usually while I'm in bed) and raking claws (gently) through the length of my hair, and sometimes chewing on the ends. She purrs in my ear hard while doing this. I've heard of cats 'grooming' to their owners as a sign of affection, but this? I gently discouraging, because I do not want it hairballs (or eat my hair period, thanks) but I wonder what could have prompted this new habit suddenly. She has never done this before!

my cat does that sometimes too. I do not know what s the deal, but sometimes she does not leave me alone. Far not been detected to stop unless I get up. good luck.
