puggle dog breeders

Is it safe to fly with my dog? Would have to be checked as baggage.?
Flying from California to New York non-stop (about 5-6 hours). Flights in December (for holidays). Dog is a 11-month puggle (half pug and half beagle). He was transferred to us in California from a breeder in Tennessee when I was 12 weeks old puppy. He is too big to carry out the aircraft.
How heavy is your dog? I wonder if at all possible fly with him in the cab. If you are going to have to fly in cargo, make sure the airline has a cargo area of climate-controlled pets that is controlled if the airplane on the ground or in the air! If there are delays (as they often are around the holidays) do not want your pet to be suffering in the cold. Make sure has inspected the bottom drawer for anything that the dog might be able to get hurt on. Make sure you have comfortable padding and bedding. The dog must have some access to food and water during that time, but not going to have to use the bathroom. Try to fly an airplane with a really good pet handling, and Continental. http://www.continental.com/web/en-US/content/travel/animals/default.aspx?&SID=6F94390472E841DD86F8EAD9612B9C6D Oh, and for safety, have your dog microchipped before you leave! Make sure the crate and the dog are clearly identified, and personally I closed the box securely!
