Good dog for a family with a toddler? Also a good idea to bring a dog when the dogs are of this age?
I am currently pregnant so my dream of a 3rd dog is on hold for a while. Probably, until our child is between the age of 5-6 That would make our dogs current 7 or 8 years old. Is it a good idea to bring a new puppy when the dogs today is that age? We were also thinking about the races. My husband and I are very start I think the German Shepherd. Most probably think that we will adopt one of our local shelter, they are always getting in German Shepherds and German Shepherd mixtures. Anyway what would you suggest other breeds for a family with 2 small dogs, a miniature poodle, 13 pounds and 21 pounds terrier mix. A child 5 or 6 years old. And a relatively active family. With a small or medium sized yard. (it would be an indoor dog) Allergies and grooming at the time, not are a problem, that could change. (This dog will go through training as well) Thanks We've both always wanted a larger dog
EAG GSD and mixtures are wonderful family dogs. They're amazing with children, and since they are a large breed that can handle the rough play of a child that age will want to participate in. And yes, properly presented, 7 / 8 year old dogs can cope with a new puppy very well. One of my own dogs was 11 when introduced two new babies, and they did great. Anyway, yes. GSDs are very smart and are great protectors. Good choice of the family dog.
