What are the several large areas of yellow-green grass in my garden?
It is simply a different strain of grass, areas with more moisture, fungi or insects. The areas range from one foot to twelve feet in diameter and are several years in a row now. Most areas, but not everyone in the shade. I have more than grass seed each year with a variety of grass seeds. Areas seems to die than have this greenish yellow. I fertilize several times during the year and have mixed clay soil.
Dig up a shovelful of earth into a yellow spot and look for white grubs. They are the larvae several types of beetles and feed on grass roots. They are about an inch long, curly and are generally easy to see. There are several chemicals than controls, as well as a natural control called milky spore that can be used in them, but the spore milk has a couple of years or more to completely eliminate them.
