Can I give my German Shepherd puppies solid food?
My German shepherd puppies 3 weeks old. The mother is not allowing feed her cubs more (perhaps another problem). Can I start feeding puppies solid food like rice with mushrooms neglected to the liver, for example???
No, babies are not ready for solid foods. There will be weaned and ready to begin solid foods until they are at least six weeks of age. The vet check the mother. She may have mastitis. It is an infection of the breast will not let her nurse her cubs. It can be serious and needs to be addressed immediately or can have a very sick dog on your hands. Meanwhile, go to the pet store and find canned "puppy milk. This is the formula that has been created to meet the nutritional needs of puppies. Get bottles or PET bottles with nipples that fit the mouths of puppies. (Get extra nipples if they are chewable.) You will have to feed babies by hand. This means you need someone on hand every three or four hours to feed them, like would a human baby. Do this NOW. The babies are hungry.
