Flip Flop

How did the name "Zori" and "flip-flop" originate?
Both are weird names, and I wondered how someone happened to call a shoe. The flip-flop seems a bit self-explanatory, but still, I wonder.
Zori is Japanese. It's just a combination of the characters in the grass and the character for "foot wear", because originally Japanese sandals made from plants. Flip-flops are basically no straw zori (but Japanese call what you call "flip-flop" zori too.) They are probably just the name of the sound they make.
