I feel like a failure as a dog owner?

Im on this forum that Ive been told im making things worse for my dog because it isn't yet housetrained. We take it as a previous owner couldnt properly care for her and she was locked in a box every day. She was not properly tamed and allowed pee and poop in the house without any guidance. In the last 9 months we've had her (she is now a year and a half) and I've been trying to train home. She is my first dog and live with my father and sister. Im only 19 and I feel I'm the only devote some time now. We managed to get stop going in the box all together and on the day they occasionally go to pee and poop on the newspaper aside. Ive said in the forum that isn't house training and must be horrible for me dog. I feel so rubbish now, really upset. I do not know, you all would agree, but what do you think?

Moving the newspaper is not really Housetraining (Housetraining means that out), but for a dog like this is a good first step. You can later move the newspaper beyond the transition the dog to go outside. Have you tried the puppy pads, which are specially scented to attract the dog? Also, a good way to housetrain an adult dog is put the dog on a leash and take it home with you. This way you can control all the time and know when he has to go, and take it out immediately. What people have a problem with is when people start paper training 8 weeks of the puppies. Some people do it in the winter because it is "too cold" to take the dog outside …. then act surprised and blame the dog when they have problems for the conversion to leave in the spring.
