dog shelter

What licenses and other "legal" things I get to open a shelter for dogs.?
What licenses and other "legal" things I have to get to open a shelter for dogs. Not as a human society, but as a refuge where people bring their dogs to enjoy the interviews, because simply unable to care for your dog. It probably nonprofit run by volunteers, but maybe not after a while. I know it varies by state, but where can I go for all legal requirements, such as building codes? Is there a website? Thanks
If you are in the U.S., then look in the Uniform Building Code (UBC). You also have to check out the construction of their city codes (or codes county building, if you want to open the shelter dog is in the unincorporated county). Most of the time, join the Uniform Code Building on their computers. Uniform Building Code: http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/ENVI/Codes.html also need to check your city or county to find out what is licenses needed to operate the business (yes, it is nonprofit, but never mind, still considered a business), which is in zone (the area or going to have the dog in the house), if it meets zoning requirements. You will have to apply for a permit – some kind of "use permit" as long as the property is in the appropriate zone. If not in the appropriate area (that is, if the use is not permitted / not permitted), you must request an amendment, zone change, and / or a conditional use permit.
