The increased confidence of the puppy?

I have a black and tan 18 weeks old coonhound who is new to our family. We adopted him a home and him a big old cat scary … he's a happy little guy, but occasionally will keep when we go to pet him. I do not think he has been abused, but could been treated rudely. Apart from a lot of praise, what are some creative ways to build confidence? Thanks!

Although only 18 weeks of age, do not really know what your puppy may have been through. Even if you have not been abused (which probably has not) may have been through many pretty scary movements or changes of a puppy. It is also probably never had the chance to really bond with any person or family, so everything will be new to him. It is perfectly normal to expect that he will be a little unsure of himself and possibly fearful or worried about life in general. However, the good news is that they say which is usually a happy little soul and be as new as it is, you learn that the world is a good place after all and become less afraid in time. lot of patience, love and affection will be vital for their development. Only the presence of consistency in their environment and "people" will take you to feel more confident same once you realize you have a home and a family that is not going anywhere. Take a daily routine and stick to it as much as possible, so we know what to expect and feel safe. The time is probably the most active here, just give him time. One thing you can find help if he flees to the touch, is to remember that never pet him on top of his head. Rather slowly and caress get under your chin. It's a very normal and instinctive reaction to some puppies and dogs to shed away from a hand going over his head, and this technique can help. Once you feel more comfortable in their familiar environment and is a bit more confident, they start to socialize. Start slowly and build. You can find the best way to socialize a puppy in this http://www.the-puppy-dog-place.com/socialize-your-puppy.html it url registration in a basic obedience class would also be a good thing. Learning to work successfully with that will make you feel more confident and I learn to play and interact with other dogs in a controlled, secure controlled environment. Good luck with your puppy.
