Black Dog

What is the meaning of the little black dog?
My grandmother just died a few weeks ago, and my grandfather is staying at home with us. Hes been very upset, almost depressed. Now everywhere I look there's this little black dog runs into something, or jumping off something. Could someone tell me if there is a meaning of this? Why is this dog with me? Are you trying to say or show something?
Black Dog Folklore In many places, dogs are seen as omens of death, to see one of the means either a harbinger of his own death or the death of a family member. In one case in 16th century Peterborough, a Black Dog came two churches a few miles away and killed several members of the congregation by burning and twisting of neck! Near Peterborough in the Neolithic / Bronze Age-Flag Fen site was found dead dogs that had been ritually murdered and dogs were found in a shaft connected to a Romano-Celtic temple site in Muntham Court near Findon, West Sussex, buried at the bottom of the foot of a deep well 80. A supernatural associations that the dog had in Roman times, Celtic mythology was with the mob, in the case of this Court Muntham became more pronounced by his burial in a ritual pit which had underworld associations in itself. In the old European folklore, the dog is seen as both the guardian and consumer of the spirits of the dead, especially with the Wild Hunt as a pack of Dogs with a master of the hunt flies through the sky in search of lost souls. This game has witnessed in Ditchling Beacon. Several old gods associated with the underworld, hunting, birth and death are also associated with dogs, such as Anubis, Hecate, Diana (and Cerberus), Nehalennia and Artemis. In spite of the generally bad press, many dogs are seen as useful, leading travelers lost or protect them. The motive of protection is sometimes also present when the Black Dog is believed to guard the treasure. Love and blessings Milly
